Description :
The Eminent Technology LFT-16A is an upgraded version of the LFT-16. A metal 6.5 aluminium cone replaced the old version paper cone and now has a much bigger magnet. This results in a deep bass frequency response than the LFT-16. Professor Bruce Thigpen designed the Eminent Technology LFT-16 as the first hybrid bookshelf size speaker system using the highly acclaimed Linear Field Transducers combined with a 6.5 inch woofer in a low Q sealed enclosure. The magnetic drive principle developed by Eminent Technology for the LFT speaker series is unique to the industry. As the diaphragm of the speaker moves between the magnets following an audio signal, the magnetic field intensity remains constant. In a sense it is the magnetic equivalent of a push-pull electrostatic loudspeaker, differing in that it requires no step up transformer or bias voltage and that the audio signal is applied directly to the diaphragm. As a result, distortion remains low even at high sound pressure levels. You get the best of both worlds. A wide, hall soundstage effect and a solid impact bass. Be prepared to listen and experience these ribbon speakers as they can rival speakers many times their price range.

Interesting Noting Points :
Eminent Technology has been estanlished since 1982 and now has a history spanning about 40 years in creating innovative products in the audio field. In 1985 Eminent Technology began developing planar magnetic loudspeakers and in 1987 introduced the worlds first full range push-pull planar magnetic loudspeaker. Since then Eminent Technology has continued to advance its loudspeaker technology and has introduced a number of new models including the first planar magnetic computer multimedia speaker. The Monsoon flat panel computer multimedia speakers were based on Eminent Technology patents.
Though the designed for music, you can use a pair of LFT-8B for the front, a pair of LFT-16A as the rear and LFT-12 as the center to form an excellent home theatre system - Great sound and cinema hall effects
Ribbon speakers are well known for their airy sound properties that are similar to wide soundstage hall like sound. Also, ribbon speakers provide very little discoloration in the sound reproduced. That is...the sound is as close as natural. That is why other similar ribbon speakers like the Apogee's and Magneplaners are so famous.
