The Sugden A48 integrated amplifier is one of Sugden's best selling amplifier, since its introduction in 1974 over 10,000 units has been sold. The distinctive styling was accepted as a classic and the UK Design Council gave it an award in 1979. The Sugden A48 produces a lovely sound that is easy on the ears, yet detailed. Its bass response is rich and deep. The high frequency range mixes a nice balance of extension and smoothness. The amplifier can handle loud volume with little strain. The A48 will improve the details along with smoother mid and upper range on CDs. The CDs also become stronger in dynamics and have better control. On phono, the A48B is much more forgiving of less than perfect records. However, some may find the Sugden A48 a little too polite as it makes the richness and rockiness of recordings appear too tame, so it may be suitable to match it with softer music where it will sound better.
