Introduced in 1991, the Cerwin Vega DX-1 speakers are equipped with a round horn tweeter and an 8 inch woofer. The speakers are at the lower end of the efficiency range compared to the other Cerwin Vega models but nevertheless, they are still highly efficient and rated at 92dB. The DX-1's have exceptionally good bass performance for a small speaker, which is what Cerwin Vega is known for. If the user likes loud rock, hip hop or electronica, the DX-1 will shine.
The bass is abundant, tight and precise without being overtly boomy in the Cerwin Vega DX-1 speakers. The midrange and vocal reproduction capabilities are pleasant and well-defined. However, the horn tweeters can become ear-piercing at higher listening levels. Though they reproduce high frequencies incredibly clearly and precisely, they only go up to 18kHz. The DX line is one of Cerwin-Vega's older lines, but arguably one of the better ones. Even with the old-tech tweeter, the DX series sound more accurate than the AT-8's and the VS-80's. Overall, the DX-1's can be an amazing little player. They can play soft or incredibly loud and still sounding great without audible distortion.
