The Gryphon Audio Tabu CDP1 marks the introduction of the very first Gryphon source component, a re-thinking of integrated single-chassis CD transport/DAC designed to complement both the performance and the appearance of the highly praised Tabu amplifiers. It has a distinctive, luxuriant finish which arises organically out of the audio circuit design and the user interface for a truly unique integration of form and function. The single-chassis unit comes with HDCD encoding, true dual differential 24-bit/96 kHz architecture and a slow roll-off, 88.2kHz proprietary upsampler that is said to dramatically increase resolution, detail, spaciousness, focus, transient accuracy and harmonic integrity. The Gryphon Audio Tabu CDP1 also includes strict dual mono configuration, minimal internal wiring, fully isolated and channel-specific separate power supplies for analog, digital and transport/display circuitry. The circuit is built with exclusive custom components such as precision crystal oscillators and C-core transformers. The modified drive mechanism incorporates extensive mechanical de-coupling with an effective clamping system to eliminate spurious disc motion.
The Gryphon Tabu CDP1 CD player sounds very musical and the soundstage extends far and wide with depth and tangible layers. The midrange is slightly sweet and tuneful. The bass is unrestrained and produces deep and fast response, giving the impression of endless power. Its dynamic and punchy characteristics are true to Gryphon's philosophy which make music lively and musical. Comparing with other cd players, the Tabu CDP1 has a considerably higher gain that other normal cd players which makes turn up the volume lesser than usual in the amplifier. The Gryphon Tabu CDP1 combines state of the art performance, intuitive ergonomics and stunning beauty into a reliable player that will offer a vast improvement on the quality of sound.
