Description :
The McIntosh MR67 is a precision engineered and highly sensitive tube tuner that provides magnificent mono & stereo FM reproduction with a reputation of legendary performance. A good reason why most classic McIntosh products are still in use today is because these same components are outperforming modern counterparts with the benefit of years of technological progression. It is in most respects on par with the top tuners, even though it's circuit topology is less sophisticated. It tops most other tuners in terms of its user interface and sound quality. The front panel is anodized gold and black aluminum with an illuminated tuning meter. The McIntosh MR67 feels bulletproof with indisputable build quality.
The McIntosh MR67's first RF amplifier stage allows the cascode amplifier to handle a wide dynamic range of signals with excellent signal-to-noise ratio. Proper design of circuit constants, together with extreme care in manufacturing, reduces spurious signals to a minimum. Sensitivity is increased to the highest possible degree, while still retaining high selectivity. The IF transformers are designed for wide band response with maximum adjacent channel rejection to assure electrical stability and resistance to mechanical shock and vibration. Adjustable limiters are used to suppress interstation and weak stations' noises. A temperature-stabilized amplifier locks-in a highly stable oscillator to provide exceptional noise immunity. Balanced detectors cancel the 38 KC signal components in the output for lowest distortion, reduced susceptibility to spurious signals and tape recording interference. A new type of mechanical tuning assembly gives the MR67 an extremely smooth, quiet, flywheel tuning action. A Teflon-lined pointer carriage and nylon pulleys are used to practically eliminate friction and wear. The overall result is unusually smooth, quiet and precise tuning action.
The MR67 has been described as having unprecedented naturalness, a large sound stage, excellent separation of instruments and the ability to reveal sonic details accurately throughout the entire frequency. It is very sweet and beautiful, and performs remarkably well without much maintenance. It reproduces music so articulate, dynamic and involving that it sounds as if the singers and instruments are performing live in the room with a fantastic portrayal of a huge stage. The sound stage is wider than the speakers and deeper than the room with bass that is so transparent and detailed that it absolutely shakes the floor. It has the uncanny ability to make broadcast sound much more stunning than CD. It is a quality classic that deserves to be treasured and enjoyed by those who appreciate vintage hi-fi gear and the rich sound that vacuum tubes provide.
