Description :
The Alchemist TS-D-1 named after its striking "turtle-shaped" design, is assembled from an aluminum extrusion sealed below with a steel base plate. Capping the otherwise open ends are two slabs of copper-clad Printed Circuit Board which endow the TS-D-1 with all-round screening from interference. The back-panel bears left and right analogue outputs, co-axial and optical inputs and the three-pin power socket which connects to the external potted transformer. A still-rare addition is the Record Output, which loops data stream to a CD or MiniDisc recorder without the need to disconnect the TS-D-1. The silicon cylinders purring away under bonnet are able to lock on any signal with a sampling frequency between 16kHz and 96kHz.
The Alchemist TS-D-1 demonstrates fine clarity and brings out fine and subtle details in music, presented in a natural and relaxing manner. The bass is tight and well controlled, and highly persuasive with acoustic material. The vocals are rock-steady and guitar is closer to life-size, and a bit soft on rock and dance. The mid range is beautiful and treble is sweet and airy. Using the Alchemist TS-D-1 is a smart and cost efficient move to have a better overall sound quality, topped with a stylish design with a good build quality.
