Description :
The Lecson Quattra integrated amplifier is nicely made, cleanly attired and finished to a high standard, specifically designed for passive bi-amping. The desirability of splitting the amplification for direct, or near-direct feed to the relevant drivers is above dispute, the audible gains being greater control and transparency. The four proper output stages (two per channel, one each for bass and treble) which can be used to bi-amp speakers have split crossovers with 2 sets of connections per speaker, or bridge the outputs to run a more conventional single connection speaker setup. It improves the definition and sound detail as each output stage is playing within in its frequency range and not compromising for highs and lows.

The Lecson Quattra sound is smooth and soft operator, but in most cases it manifests as a sweetening of the sound, a freedom from sibilance and a removal of 'edginess'. The sound quality is less dependent about the gear with which it's partnered, so building systems with the amplifier will be an easy task. Its near-holographic imaging and consistency from top to bottom compensate for the softness. The Lecson Quattra appears to show less strain when the swings vary at their widest. Depending on tastes and priorities, the amplifier can be run for maximum dynamics at the expense of transparency, for maximum transparency but with slight compression, or in "bi-wired" mode for somewhere in between. It is an innovative amplifier yet a real alternative to conventional amplifiers, devoid of any con-artistry.
