The Naim Audio Hi-Cap comes in 3 versions : Chrome Bumper, Olive and Black. The Black version is also known as the Naim Audio Hi-Cap 2. Although certain Naim amplifiers provide an adequate power supply to the partnering pre-amplifier, the use of a separate Naim Hi-Cap 2 power supply brings substantially improved musicality to the whole system. Simply being separate from the amplifiers ensures correct earthing and hum-free operation, while the large toroidal transformer and generous high quality smoothing capacitors provide exceptional dynamic stability. Each of the power outputs use specially selected regulators for optimum performance. The Naim Audio Hi-Cap 2 can be used to power all of the Naim phono stages, active crossovers and pre-amplifiers except the NAC552 and NAC252. In the case of the NAC282 pre-amplifier, a second Naim Hi-Cap 2 may be used, bringing further improvements. The addition of anti-vibration, resonance-controlling feet compliments the elegant new cast and extruded anti-magnetic chassis to protect the sensitive internal components from resonance and microphonic vibration.
The audible benefits from adding Naim Audio Hi-Cap 2 are improve timing, dynamic range, clarity and order to the music. Undeniably sharper focus, greater image depth and overall clarity, plus the purer sibilants and the more upbeat tempo are demonstrated. The music is less coloured than its normally neutral self. Loud and soft contrasts are more precise, micro dynamic detail improved, and this generally stronger, clearer character is underpinned by deeper, faster and more tuneful bass. The Naim Audio Hi-Cap 2 sets free the musicality and dynamic range of a hi-fi system, making an incredibly effective upgrade to a pre-amplifier, power amplifier combination.
