Handcrafted in Japan, the Almarro 318A is a single-ended triode amplifier that has the pureness and sweetness characteristics of a SET design. Though the 318A has a softer presentation overall than the 318B version, it is designed to match horn speakers. Their softer presentation counters the horn's forwardness in sound so it won't be jarring to the ear. Also, the 318A's advantage over the 318B version is that it has no feedback. Although rated 18 watts RMS, they sound far more powerful. The double triode 6C33C valves used are known for their ability to deliver far more current than other triodes. In tube amplifiers, the push pull designs lacked the 3D clarity of the SETs and the SETs lacked the power and bass control of the more powerful push pulls. The Almarro 318A seems to combine both these traits very successfully. The Almarro amplifiers are also of very high resolution. A couple of reviewers have commented that they seem to be able to hear right into the performance with a sort of clarity that is sometimes startling. Another reviewer commented on an almost forensic level of detail. Hardwired with silver teflon cables in audio path and no PCB, the 318A calls for a lifetime of music enjoyment with ultra reliability. With great looks, finishing and performance, this amplifier is like a winner.
