Description :
Chord Electronics Ltd is a world-leading manufacturer of high-end audio products. A technology-driven leader, Chord Electronics’ philosophy of ongoing evolution and refinement continues to deliver landmark audio products with extraordinary performance and unrivalled design features. Ingeniously designed for high performance over the long term, Chord products are renowned internationally for their advanced technology which is amongst the best in the world. Sparkling clarity, unrivalled transparency and huge reserves of high-quality power are trademarks that have become synonymous with the brand. The Chord SPM 1200C is one generation after the 1200B model. The 1200E is the "Enhanced" version. The 1200C can be upgraded from the 1200B version.
The Chord SPM 1200C is easy to operate and extremely powerful, which is likely to do with the the switch mode power supply. It is the first amplifier maker that utilizes the design in the consumer audio market, then other companies such as Linn and Jeff Rowland decided to follow suit. The "HiFi" qualities are all there: transparancy, speed, timing and resolution, however what really catches the attention is the way in which the listener is drawn into the music forgetting that the electronics are there at all. Details recorded in the CD's can now be heard. A decent HiFi system will allow the listener to tell that a sound is actually a musical instrument, while the Chords go one step better in that that listener realise that that instrument is actually being played by a skilled and talented musician or that a singer has put real feeling and power into the performance. This, luckily, applies to both good and bad recordings. The Chord SPM 1200C power amplifier sounds very refined, having extended details and resolution along with enormous power. It is incredibly neutral, powerful, and yet delicate. The projected soundstage is also huge, enveloping and rock solid, satisfying in almost all sonic aspects. This amplifier is well suited for electrostatics and planars or speakers with low impedance. If you are looking for high end amplification, you should definitely audition them.
