The Audiolab 8000S is the successor of the widely acclaimed Audiolab 8000A. Various changes have been made to the circuit over the years, amounting cumulatively to a substantial departure from the original. The Audiolab 8000S offers unique system flexibility and can assume a few roles. It can be used as a normal integrated amplifier, with any of its six inputs amplified to conventional loudspeaker outputs. The 8000S can be used as a discrete preamplifier or power amplifier as well. Alternatively, an extra power amplifier can be added by linking through the pre outputs of the 8000S. This amplifier boasts high-quality features, including a headphone output, three tape loops and remote control functionality. Almost all the stages are based on discrete transistors mounted on heat sinks which makes the amplifier more consistent with time and temperature. The Audiolab 8000S has a rare feature of separated source switches for listening and recording. The source switch for "listening" is motorized and hence remote-controllable.
The Audiolab 8000S has clear sound with powerful, dynamic drive, yet subtle details are never lost. It is warm and has a ferocious desire to strike firmly in leading edges of the bass and adds slap in the percussion. The mid range is presented with fine neutrality and integrates seamlessly with the sound stage. The treble is clear and detailed, yet never obtrusive. The sound reveals new information about old favorites, and nuances of playing style become more obvious. This amplifier combines musical energy and revealing detail. Overall, the Audiolab 8000S is a very versatile amplifier and a very worthy and essential addition to any home with a passion for high quality audio.
