The Naim Audio NAP150X represents Naim's first step on the power amp ladder and its design also owes much to more upmarket Naim models. It exhibits equal confidence and assurance and can be made an ideal partner for preamplifiers, bringing significantly greater performance and satisfaction. Although rated at a modest 50 watts and has a sleek design, the NAP150X is a powerful-sounding amplifier. The Naim NAP150X features many improvements over the original NAP150 including a hefty toroidal transformer for improved regulation, with discrete windings for each audio channel. There's also an enhanced power supply for the preamplifier. The improvements made Naim's traditional speed, rhythmic and dynamic precision, neutral tonal balance, and very low noise floor evident right from the start. Its flexibility allows it to be used in most series of systems, both passive and active.
After some days of playing together with the 122X and the FlatCap2X, it produces sounds of excellent power and transparency, with both fine detail and the ability to shake the room. The Naim set pick out each instrument distinctly, then knits their contribution together with others superbly to provide a cohesive, well-judged sense of drive and impetus. Dynamically, they proves equally faithful, no matter whether it is dealing with overt contrasts or the subtle variations of elements buried further back within a mix. The Naim set doesn't show undue favour to any part of the musical spectrum, lucidly portraying high frequencies without any emphasis or aggression while displaying a notable control over the bass. This is both sonorous and precise, with full-bodied notes starting and stopping with outstanding acuity. With its luxurious sound, easy and effective upgradeability with power sources and Naim's accomplished reputation, they all add up to a very tempting buy.
