The Rogers db101 redefines both the aesthetics and performance envelope attainable from a compact speaker. Drawing on the expertise of the automobile industry, the injection moulded ABS cabinet profile offers maximum rigidity with minimum mass. Cabinet rigidity is further increased by the addition of bonded aluminium sides. The db101's cabinet profile ensures that all internal standing waves are minimised thus resulting in both a cleaner and more dynamic presentation. The high cabinet rigidity combined with low mass confirms that spatial location of detail is reproduced at the highest level. Two unique drivers deliver a high sensitivity performance that belie the db101's diminutive dimensions. The woofer exhibits excellent transient performance required for truly realistic music reproduction. The performance of the tweeter is extended well beyond 20kHz with excellent transient response and high frequency performance. The acoustically suspended tweeter 'floats' in the middle of the bass reflex port. This unique design optimises the full range directionality and superb driver integration of the db101.
Designed as a general-purpose, nearfield monitor for private and commercial studio use, the Rogers db101 speakers are nicely compact speakers which won't get in the way if perched on wall bracket. They are tough, can handle power, and are capable of withstanding the kind of SPLs professional mix engineers expect from their nearfield speakers. Apparently, they're already popular with dance music composers for this reason. The Rogers db101 speakers match the clarity of a single-ended amp in the midrange and they have the speed and slam of the push-pulls in the lower end. They can clout and punch with solid-state authority and be subtle and intimate with the very best of any design. Their transparency is commendable for a cone design and they can reveal quite clearly any difference in recordings - a facet missing in many "superior" designs. Over a longer time period, the lack of bottom end with heavy rock material could disappointing but if the user wants low bass, he should get bigger speakers in the first place. Surprisingly in many respects, the db101's presentation is acceptable in the classical and jazz arenas. The area in which they really excelled, though, are vocals. Somehow, Rogers have got the mix just right. The magnetic screening is good news for anyone working close to TV or computer monitors, and the styling will attract attention. The Rogers dB101 speakers aren't the cheapest nearfield monitors around, and they don't have the best bass extension, but, within their price range, they offer the right combination of tonal near-neutrality, good transient handling, the ability to play loud, and the kind of sonic integrity expected from Rogers.
