Description :
Substantially the largest C Series model, the slim elegant, floor-standing KEF C80 is the second C-Series model to benefit from KEF's 'conjugate load' crossover network design, originally developed for Model 104/2. The net effect on the hi-fi system of replacing a conventional 8 ohm speaker with one which presents a 4 ohm constant resistance is doubled sound power output of the existing amplifier without any increase in distortion. The 25mm tweeter is common to both, though the complex double bass unit coupled cavity system used in 104/2 simplified, with a conventional single unit. The famous B139 bass unit provides exceptional bass quality and unusual extension for the cabinet size. The KEF C80 has a new polypropylene-coned B160 allowed high sensitivity and power handling along with low coloration through the mid-band. The KEF C80 speakers' binding posts have 1 black and 2 red which allows for 2 positioning methods - against the wall and away from the wall.
The KEF C80 has high efficiency, coupled with adequate power handling and low distortion to produce audio with a wide dynamic range. Low coloration is achieved by freedom from spectral distortion both on and off axis, and from structural resonances in the enclosure and drive units, allowing fine musical detail to be reproduced with clarity and accuracy. With its exceptionally high sensitivity and easy load characteristics, low cost amplifiers will their reveal hidden strengths. It combines the low coloration and stereo virtues of open siting with fine bass extension, high output and power handling to provide outstanding value, and particularly well suited to reproduce disc and other programme sources having a wide dynamic range. It performs excellently in all rooms irrespective of their shape and size, allow flexibility of positioning, and operate with as wide a range of associated electronics as possible, whilst extracting the best from each. With a wide dynamic range, uncolored performance, the KEF C80 provides a clarity and realism many strive to emulate but few achieve.
