Description :
The Jim Rogers JR149 was designed by Jim Rogers himself, who worked as an engineer for the BBC where he designed the famous BBC LS3/5A bookshelf speaker. In 1977 when the JR149 was designed, it was based upon the reknown LA3/5A encased in a heavy gauge aluminium cylinder with wooden end caps. It used KEF driver units, the same as in the LS3/5a’s - a T27 tweeter SP1032 and a B110a bass unit SP1003. The JR149 had three different crossovers. The first version without a fuse in the red logo. The second version had a fuse in the gold logo. The third version was the type 24 crossover which was designed in 1991 on a square circuit board. All these where designed by Jim Rogers. Jim Rogers went onto design a super woofer to extend the base down to 30Hz and larger model, the JR150.

The Jim Rogers JR149 is an outstanding loudspeaker which entirely does away the resonances and colourations of box cabinets despite the introduction of various damping techniques and the use of internal partitions. The JR149 system has an enclosure of heavy gauge aluminium in a near cylindrical shape giving it enormous advantages over the conventional rectangular box. The shape is extremely resistant to vibrations. Standing waves from varying lengths of reflection are of low amplitude and these are damped by a thick layer of acoustic absorbing foam which lines the whole of the inside. The lining also reduces radiation from the cylinder's walls. Each end of the cylinder is fitted with a low resonant fibre disc made slightly concave by the tension of an internal fixing steel rod which further inhibits panel resonance. The radical design of these new loudspeakers allows for exceptional reproduction with the slightly hint of the small size of the unit.

Though the Jim Rogers JR149 loudspeaker is under 15 inch high, yet speech and music reproduction of all kinds, including organ music, give no clues to the speaker's unusually small size. It sounds like a big speaker. The smooth external contour of the cylinder allows high frequency response in the higher plane to be unaffected by edge reflections. And polar response is also improved. The JR149's bass woofer with a long-throw voice coil gives a much better response by reducing cone break up in the critical 300Hz to 3kHz range. Good bass response is achieved by a low system resonance of 64Hz. A sophisticated 14-element crossover design gives the best balance between efficiency, power handling and low frequency range. At last, a real high performance and small size have been combined.

With sheer efficiency and performance, the Jim Rogers JR149 provides a fresh and exhilarating experience that shows the flair, technical resources and reflects of the speaker's design. A wall bracket system is also an accessory available to those who don't want to place their speakers on a supporting surface. Alternatively the speaker can be suspended from the ceiling by a chain. It is an ideal solution for systems where space is at a premium.
