The Marantz CD-17 KI Signature CD player is a handsome slim-line unit, but in all other respects, the external design is identical to the standard player. It's a single-box model (Marantz, strongly influenced by Ishiwata, supports the integrated rather than separate deck/DAC format for CD players, to maximise integrity of signal transfer and minimise jitter) with an unexotic fascia arrangement of side disc drawer, centre display window and round button controls. The sound is open, wide-ranging and highly detailed, with well controlled bass and airy if sometimes lean highs. Soundstaging is wide and deep, and the audio image is rock steady.
